New business area in Mol enable expansion for Transport Gheys

The Antwerp provincial council has approved of three provincial spatial implementation plans (PRUP's) for the expansion of business in Mol and Balen.

The plans are about the business area Berkenbossen East - partly situated on the territory of Mol and partly on Balen territory - and Berkenbossen West, which lies entirely in Mol.

The expansion of Berkenbossen East covers the development of a local business area in the southern zone on one hand, and a new mixed regional business area in the eastern zone on the other hand. Together they represent an area of ​​26 ha. Business lots of minimum 5,000 m² are foreseen. For the traffic flow of the industrial zone a reservation zone for a new opening is provided, which connects to the Postelsesteenweg. Buffer strips will be developed, to the present residential area as well as to the surrounding forest areas.

The business area Berkenbossen West, should allow the expansion of transport and logistics company Gheys on an area of seven hectares. Linked to the expansion are also new investments for water activity on the canal-Dessel Kwaadmechelen. According to Ruben Swerts from Group Gheys the investments will include an expansion of the container quay with 1,000and the construction of additional warehouse logistics behind the terminal. In total, a rise up to 15,000 m² of warehouses could be possible.

Gheys maintains daily barge connections from Mol to the port of Antwerp, with two barges with a capacity of 60 TEU each.
